Tell us about your childhood first.
I was born at Cuttack Tulasipur and did my schooling in Tulasipur High School before I joined Christ College and pursued higher secondary education in Arts. My father Rabindra Kumar Mohanty was an interpreter and publisher at a missionary organisation. I enjoyed my childhood in a happy and cheerful family.
How was the journey after academic life?
On completion of my Plus II exams, I had visited Mumbai where my elder brother was working. Since I liked the city very much I had developed a weakness of working there. Soon, I got an opportunity in a courier company there. Within a few days, the company nominated my name for a managerial post but I couldn’t avail the opportunity as my qualifications didn’t match the requirements. This prompted me to pursue higher education and I successfully completed my graduation.
What prompted you to become an industrialist?
After returning to Odisha, I was searching for a job and eventually I was selected for a marketing job in a Bhubaneswar-based company. Within a few days of my appointment, I started handling different segments of the business like purchasing, marketing, supervising and production, thanks to my efficiency. This enabled me in thoroughly study all the aspects of being an industrialist. After some time, I thought of investing my savings and starting my own business.
Why did you pick brick laying machine as your business venture?
Cuttack was getting polluted by the smoke released from clay brick kilns dotting the outskirts of Silver city. This was troubling me. So, I planned to set up a brick-laying machine and started working towards it with the capital and experience I had. An old workshop in the industrial estate of Jagatpur served as my first workplace. My experience helped me a lot in starting the venture.
What are the upcoming plans of Nexus?
There is good demand and business for Nexus products in the state. We have now been able to supply machines to other states. We have even exported machines abroad and achieved success beyond our expectations. Soon we will come up with another initiative of paver block manufacturing machines which will provide livelihood opportunities to the youth. This will help in strengthening the economic standards of the state by providing employment to many. This will help address the migrant issue.
Tell us in brief about the goal of your life.
I want to work relentlessly on making Odisha a green, pollution-free and beautiful state and simultaneously providing employment opportunities to the youths. I will provide necessary assistance to youths who aspire to be entrepreneurs by establishing their own businesses that will help build Odisha as a progressive state.
