Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, the Air Intelligence Wing of the Customs Department seized smuggled gold worth over Rs 8 lakh at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here late Friday night.
The officials intercepted the accused who boarded at Kuala Lampur and landed at the BPIA by an Air Asia flight. Following a tip-off, the sleuths searched his luggage after intercepting him upon arrival. Later, during the examination of his body, sleuths found gold in powdered form in polythene bag wrapped with black tape inside his rectum.
The accused was reportedly taken to hospital in order to recover the smuggled item. The contraband weighing 254.47 grams was valued at Rs 8,20,156.
