Baripada: Even as a severe cold wave sweeps the state, temperature has dropped to 2 to 3 degree Celsius for the last few days in Similipal and its peripheral areas in Mayurbhanj district.
The cold condition has made life tough for people living in the area as well as for tourists visiting the sanctuary. Layers of snowflakes were found on the ground and on vehicles in the morning.
However, there is no problem for the wildlife in the sanctuary, said deputy director of Similipal Tiger Project, Jajnadatt Pati. Barahamuda recorded 2 degree Celsius while Nana and Chahala recorded 3 degree Celsius Tuesday. Despite the severe cold condition, tourists thronged the sanctuary.
Baripada town also experienced severe cold. Icy winds made life tough in the morning. Baripada recorded 9.5 degree Celsius Tuesday.
