Cuttack: A social organisation has come forward to draw mural paintings on the walls of Link Road overbridge on National Highway 16 that passes through the Silver City.
According to sources, the mural paintings would depict the cultural heritage of the city. Social outfit ‘Silver City Cuttack’ would sketch the murals by spending around Rs 2 lakh.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) completed construction of the overbridge around two years ago. However, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) did not evince any interest to beautify the walls of the overbridge.
“The NHAI guidelines do not permit the sponsor of the mural paintings to write its name on the overbridge walls. That is why, no private entity did come forward to draw mural paintings on the overbridge walls,” said CMC official Shyamasundar Sethi.
However, Silver City Cuttack president Abhash Mohanty said they would draw the mural paintings as per the NHAI guidelines. “We have decided to make mural paintings on the walls of Link Road Overbridge at the entrance of the Silver City. The murals would depict the culture and tradition of Cuttack,” Mohanty added.
NHAI officer Jitendra Dalai said the social outfit would make the mural paintings without writing its name on the overbridge walls.
“The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has drawn murals on the walls of Vani Vihar overbridge in Bhubaneswar. The initiative has added to the beauty of the Capital City,” Mohanty said.
