Sohela: A Class X girl student under Melchhamunda police limits in Bargarh district was allegedly raped by a youth and later by a police official at Sohela police station.
The survivor was reportedly kidnapped and later raped by a youth and a police ASI. The matter came to light after the survivor’s father lodged a complaint with the Melchhamunda police station Sunday. Police registered a case under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act and detained a youth in this connection. The survivor was sent for medical examination to Bargarh.
According to sources, the girl was residing at her uncle’s house. She left Deeptipur for tuition Friday morning but did not return by evening. The girl’s relatives lodged a complaint at Melchhamunda police station Friday evening as they could not trace her whereabouts. Police registered a case and rescued the girl from Sohela Saturday evening and handed her over to her family members.
The survivor narrated her ordeal after being questioned by her relatives. She has alleged in her complaint that she was kidnapped by a youth to Sohela on his bike. The youth reached Sohela police station where he met an ASI from whom he collected the keys of his rented house. He allegedly raped the girl in the house and later locked her up before fleeing.
Later, the ASI took the girl to the police station by covering her face and raped her at night following which she lost her consciousness. When the girl regained her senses, she was sent back to Bargarh in a bus by the ASI, Saturday.
The ASI rang up the girl in evening and asked her to come back to Sohela as her parents were anxious to meet her. The girl arrived at Sohela Thana Chhak where the Melchhamunda police rescued the girl. The Sohela police have started an investigation in the absence of the IIC of Melchhamunda police station.
When contacted, Sohela IIC Nirmal Kumar Mohapatra assured stringent action against the accused after a thorough probe.
