Sorcerers attempt to bring ‘dead’ cow back to life

Chhendipada: After reports of failed attempts by sorcerers to bring dead persons back to life in this district, another bizarre incident of sorcery to resurrect a dead cow has come to light here Thursday.

According to reports, some villagers of Bagedia under Sadar police limits in Angul district sought the help of sorcerers to resurrect a dead cow, killed after a snake-bite.

The weird incident took place after a venomous snake bit the cow while it was grazing in a field close to the village.

Following the incident, the cowherd informed the owner of the cow. However, instead of taking the animal to a veterinary hospital, the cow owners called two sorcerers to infuse life into the animal.

While there have been similar attempts to resurrect humans, this might be the first incident when black magic was performed to bring a cow back to life. Despite repeated complaints of such bizarre incidents, the authorities have failed to spread awareness.

Recently, a woman – Jhuna Bhutia of Mamuria under Chhendipada block — who was bitten by a snake sought a sorcerer’s help to heal her through black magic instead of seeking medical help. The incident took place on the premises of Chhendipada Community Health Centre in Angul district.

Similarly, relatives of a 24-year-old youth of Salerapada under Thakurmunda block of Baripada, who died after a snake bite, asked a black magician to chant mantras through mobile phone to bring the deceased back to life August 5.
