Soro: At a time when the youth is averse towards taking up agriculture as a profession, 35-year old Prashant Kumar Biswal of Bajana village under Soro police limits in Balasore has become a successful farmer and carved out an identity for himself.

After completing graduation in Arts in 2005, Prashant did not look for jobs like his counterparts. He rather took interest in agriculture. In his fist attempt, he farmed in 15 acre land and expanded it to 30 acre on a share-cropping basis.

In both Kharif and Rabi seasons, he raised crops. He added cultivation of mustard, brinjal, onion and tomatoes to paddy crop.

Significantly, he has been strictly using bio-compost for cultivation.

He has also engaged 10 other people.

He has bought two tractors, two transplantation machines, a seeds-sowing machine, three power sprays, a paddy cutting machine and a winnowing machine.

He asserts that he has purchased every farm instrument with his own money and has never taken any help from the government.

He lamented, “The real farmers are really deprived of government help.”

At his leisure time, he engages himself in various social works sponsored by Satyasai sangathan.
