Soumendra Priyadarshi is new twin city police commissioner

Bhubaneswar: The state government Monday appointed senior IPS officer and ADGP, Crime Branch, Soumendra Priyadarshi as the new commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police. He will replace the incumbent Police Commissioner, Sudhanshu Sarangi, who has been transferred as the CMD of the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation Ltd.

Priyadarshi, a 1995 batch Odisha cadre IPS officer, is a resident of Khurda district. Speaking to Orissa POST, Priyadarshi said, “The government has given huge responsibility showing immense faith in me. I will try my level best to perform my duty with utmost sincerity and honesty. My first priority will be to bring increasing criminal activities in the twin-city under control.”

Sarangi, who was appointed as the Commissioner of Police in August 2019, will replace 1988 batch IPS officer M Akhay who currently holds the post of CMD, OPH&WC. Akhya has been posted as the DG of Home Guard & Fire Services. The post of DG of Home Guard & Fire Services had been lying vacant after Satyajit Mohanty took voluntary retirement to join as the chairman of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC).

Sarangi had recently carried out a top-secret operation to catch Biban, the prime accused in the sensational Anjana Mishra gangrape case, from his hideout at Aamby Valley in Maharashtra.
