Mumbai: Fans were eagerly looking forward to the biopic on former national cricket team captain and current BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly was announced. Earlier this month, Luv Ranjan’s ‘Luv Films’ had officials announced the biopic on Sourav Ganguly.
Sources said that Luv Ranjan who is currently directing Ranbir Kapoor in a yet to be titled film had approached the actor to play Sourav Ganguly. However, Ranbir has turned the proposal down as he is more of a football fan than cricket. Also Ranbir has said that after Sanju he does not want to be a part of any biopic.
Bengali and Kahaani actor Parambrata Chatterjee was also thought of playing the role, but it did not happen as producers of the biopic want an actor with a pan-India image.

Sources also said that in case the producers do not get an actor to play the role, then Ganguly himself may be roped in as the lead actor. Ganguly’s love with the TV is well-known. He has improved by leaps and bounds since the first season of the quiz show ‘Dadagiri’ which is in Bengali. Since Ganguly has an accent free Hindi dialect, it won’t be a surprise if he himself plays the lead role in his own biopic.
There is still some time to go before shooting begins as the script is still being written.
Reports had earlier said that director and producers Shiboprpsad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy of the Bengali film industry have been roped in for collaborating on the biopic.
On professional front, Ranbir has a number of films in the pipeline, including Shamshera, Brahmastra, Animal and Luv Ranjan’s next.
