Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar Wednesday informed that the Southwest monsoon after overstaying in Odisha for about a fortnight has completely withdrawn from the state.

The IMD’s regional centre here tweeted, “The Southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from the remaining parts of Odisha and thus it has withdrawn from entire Odisha today the 28th October, 2020.”

“Also, in view of significant reduction in rainfall activity over most parts of the country, the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country today the 28th October, 2020,” added the weather department.

Notably, last year the southwest monsoon had withdrawn from Odisha October 15.

However, two days ago the centre had said that the southwest monsoon started the process of withdrawing from the state and it has completely withdrawn from eight districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Bolangir and Nuapada.

It had also withdrawn from some parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput districts of interior Odisha, the centre added October 26.

As per the analysis of IMD department the normal withdrawal dates of monsoon from Odisha have been around Oct 15-16. However, like the years of 1973, 1975 and 2010, the monsoon had withdrawn from Odisha October 28 this year.
