Bhubaneswar: A special court of Additional District & Sessions Judge here Saturday granted bail to senior BJD leader Pradeep Maharathy in connection with an alleged attack on a team of Election Commission flying squad officials.
According to sources, the bail was granted against sureties of Rs 50,000 and two bailers. The court has also laid down conditions asking Maharathy not to influence the witnesses and to cooperate with the police in investigation.
The police, earlier in the day, submitted the case diary and injury report pertaining to the incident.
It may be mentioned here that the Court had deferred his bail plea this April 24 as the police expressed its inability to submit the case diary and injury report citing election duty that day.
Six-term MLA Maharathy, who is contesting from Pipili Assembly seat again, was arrested on April 22 for allegedly attacking the EC’s flying squad magistrate Rabinarayan Patra when he attempted to search the former minister’s farm house after receiving complaints on money and liquor distribution there before the election.
