Bhubaneswar: With the state ready to roll out two learning enhancement programmes (LEPs) when primary and upper primary schools reopen across the state, many surprises await the students.
Elementary schools across the state have been preparing to launch two LEPs- Ujjwal, for classes 1-5, and Utthan, for classes VI-VII.
Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) would launch these programmes with an aim to enhance learning outcomes and standard appropriate competencies. Experts say that the LEPs have the potential to substantially impact the statewide learning outcomes and benefit 40 lakh students across the state.
The state has been preparing for these programmes for the past few months. Massive teacher training exercise was conducted in April wherein approximately 1.41 lakh teachers took part and special workbooks were distributed to all schools for Ujjwal and Utthan by the state.
OPEPA has also engaged a team of experts from State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) that would conduct an impact assembly study for both the programmes and submit their reports and findings. Sources said that both Ujjwal and Utthan programmes would run in two phases. The phase-I has started from June 18 and would continue till July 31. In this phase only remediation classes would operate and no regular syllabus would be taught.
In phase-II, which will run from August 1 through most of the school year, teachers would have to undertake remediation classes for one period every year at primary level and three hours every Monday at the secondary level.
