Buguda: A youth killed a newly-wed woman by slitting her throat and later attempted to commit suicide at Karadabadi village under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Banita Pallei while the accused was identified as Pabitra Jena.
Pabitra who also tried to end his life by slitting his own throat was rescued and admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur where his condition was stated to be critical.
According to police sources, Pabitra was in a relationship with Banita before her marriage. He also wanted to marry her, but her family were not happy with the relationship.
So, they arranged her wedding with another person 12 days ago.
As per tradition of ‘Juin Dakara’, the couple had come to Banita’s house on the 10th day of their marriage. Meanwhile, Pabitra met Banita Wednesday morning and convinced her to continue relationship with him.
After she rejected his proposal to continue relationship with him, he slitted her throat with a razor in a fit of rage. Pabitra then tried to kill himself by inflicting injuries on his throat using the razor.
Both of them were found in a critical condition and admitted to Buguda hospital, where doctor declared Banita dead. On the other hand, Pabitra was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police have started investigation into the incident after registering a case.
