Puri: The district administration has started preparation to implement ban on the use of plastic and polythene in the Holy City here from October 2.
At a preparatory meeting chaired by district collector Jyoti Prakash Das Wednesday, it was decided to launch a massive campaign to make people aware of the harmful impact of plastic.
“The administration will organise a series of rallies and put up hoardings to create awareness against plastic. We will also distribute leaflets and use microphones during the campaign,” said an official of the district administration.
Sources claimed that the district collector has laid emphasis on finding alternative arrangements to plastic. The administration has also decided to form a squad to enforce the plastic ban in the Holy City.
Among others, superintendent of police Sarthak Sarangi, District Rural Development Agency project director Uddhab Chandra Majhi, sub-collector Bhabataran Sahu, municipal executive officer Srikant Tarai, divisional forest officer Harsh Vardhan Udgata and district tourism officer Bijay Jena were present at the meeting.
