Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee is scheduled to meet November 26 to deliberate on various issues including those pertaining to implementation of reforms proposals for the 12th century shrine.
According to sources, the managing panel would deliberate on at least three proposals out of 12 suggested by the Supreme Court of India.
The managing panel would hold elaborate discussions on proposals for abolition of hereditary rights of Srimandir servitors, imposition of ban on any type of donation collection from devotees by servitors and bringing certain amendments to Sri Jagannath Temple Act-1954, said a source.
Apart from that, the managing panel is likely to deliberate on the large scale violence during a 12-hour bandh called by a self-styled outfit in the city October 3 to protest against the introduction of queue system for devotees at Srimandir. “The committee would assess the damage done to Srimandir properties during the bandh and discuss measures to restore them. Besides, the panel may review the performance of rituals during the just completed holy month of Kartik,” added the source.
Notably, the SC is scheduled to conduct hearing on a case pertaining to Srimandir November 30.
