Bhubaneswar: In a written statement in the state Assembly Thursday, the Department of Law claimed that the collection of gold in the Puri Sri Jagannth temple under the ‘Pindika and others’ reached its second highest figure in the current year.
The detailed report on collection and expenditure of gold in Srimandir claims that between April 1, 2018 and August 31 this year, Srimandir received 793.23 grams of gold in the mentioned category, the second highest since 2004-2005 when it received the highest of 851.07 grams of gold. The collection figure dating back to 1983 figures started depicting the collections under the category in grams only after 2000.
On the other hand, the total gold collection in hundis seemed to have declined since 2014-15, when the total collection of gold through the hundis was pegged at 1,174.58 grams. It went down to 797.41 grams in 2017-18 and till August 31 this year it was pegged at 350.01gms.
Nevertheless, the figures relating to the collections in hundis seem to be increasing with every year. As per the statement, the total collection through hundi stood at Rs 56,057,165 in 2012-13, while in 2017-18 it went up to Rs 96,306,115. The total collections since 1983 till July this year are stated to be Rs 70,67,92,775.85.
