Srimandir reforms: Devotee writes to SC, opposes ticket system

Puri: A devotee Thursday wrote to the Supreme Court opposing a proposal to introduce ticket system for people at Srimandir.

Devotee Dillip Baral sent his letter to the apex court through registered post.

In his letter, Baral informed the SC that a three-member committee, constituted by the state government to study administrative systems at some prominent shrines vis-à-vis Srimandir has suggested queue system for devotees.

The committee has also suggested ticket system for devotees who would opt for paid darshan at Srimandir. As per the suggestion, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) would facilitate a separate queue for ticket holders, Baral told the SC.

According to him, the SJTA might give more importance to the ticket holders and neglect the common devotees. As a result, many devotees would be deprived of darshan at Srimandir during festivals.

Baral also opposed a proposal for registering devotees on special occasions. He claimed that the registration system would create problems for the common devotees.

He informed the SC that several judicial commissions, set up by the state government in the past, did not suggest the introduction of ticket system at Srimandir. He urged the SC not to accept the three-member panel proposal suggesting ticket system at the 12th century shrine.
