Puri: A servitor of Puri Jagannath temple was grievously injured Sunday after the Hiranyakashyap idol of Nrusingha Avatar came off the outer wall of Ugra Nrusingha temple inside Srimandir and fell on him.
The incident has been the talk of the town here since the mishap occurred on the occasion of auspicious Dola Purnima.
The Ugra Nrusingha temple is on the west of Srimandir. Atop the temple outer wall, there was the Ugra Nrusingha idol with the 4-feet long Hiranyakashyap idol on his lap. Sunday morning, this Hiranyakashayp idol somehow came off and fell on servitor Kunu Mohaptra who is engaged at the temple.
A seriously injured Mohapatra was immediately rescued by the fellow servitors and was rushed him to Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH). Later he was shifted to a Bhubaneswar based hospital. He has one of his legs fractured in the incident, it was learnt.
Meanwhile, the Puri Jagannath Temple Niti Administrator has conducted an investigation into the incident. The Sri Jagannath Temple Administration will bear the entire treatment cost of the injured servitor, it was learnt.
