Bhubaneswar: Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disability (SSEPD) department provided 72 artificial limbs to persons with disabilities (PwD) here at an event Monday.
With the support of Biju Mahaveer Jaipur Foot Centre (BMJFC), the PwDs were given prosthetics lower limbs, orthosis lower limbs, hand prosthesis and auxiliary crutches. The programme was attended by PwDs from different parts of the state.
72 artificial limbs, five wheelchairs, two tricycles, five pairs of auxiliary crutches and two pairs of elbow crutches were distributed during the programme.
While distributing the prosthetic limbs, SSEPD Minister Ashok Chandra Panda said that Bhagaban Mahaveer Vikalanga Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur with its branch Biju Mahaveer Jaipur Foot Centre in Khurdha will collaborate closely with the government through public private participation (PPP) to provide artificial limbs and callipers at centres and mobile workshops across the state.
BMC Mayor Sulochana Das, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, Shreemayee Mishra, chairperson of Odisha Building and other Construction Workers Board, Manjulata Kahanra, Deputy Mayor along with Arun Bothra, ADG (Crime) and senior office bearers of Rotary Club Dist 3,262 were present on the occasion.
SSEPD principal secretary Bishnupada Sethy said that SSEPD department and Biju Mahaveer Jaipur Foot Centre have joined hands to organise 28 mobile camps in Khurda and Ganjam districts. More than 500 PwDs have benefited through these mobile workshops, he said.
As per sources, approximately 4 lakh PwDs will be provided artificial limbs and appliances through such distribution camps and mobile workshops across the state.
