Stagnation of water on NH-16 worries villagers

Ganjam: Three weeks have passed since the cyclonic storm Fani devastated the state but the rainwater that got accumulated on the National Highway-16 and nearby Puintola village in this district is still there, a report said.

The stagnated water is giving out foul smell and the people are worried that they may contract diseases. They fear the dirty water might flow into their villages if not cleared ahead of the rainy season.

Peeved over the water logging, the villagers met executive officer Sunil Kumar Tudu of Ganjam NAC Saturday and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.

The villagers led by the councillor of Ward No-1 also submitted similar memoranda to the Chhatrapur sub-collector and the Ganjam tehsildar.

They alleged that the water is getting stagnated on the highway as some unscrupulous land dealers have dumped soil in front of the culvert on the highway side.

When contacted, tehsildar Abani Kumar Sahu said he has written letters to the NAC and the BDO after receiving the complaint and has asked them to take necessary action.
