Bhubaneswar: The state Thursday got its first women’s shelter home as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation declared the Shelter for Urban Homeless at Chandrasekharpur here as Women’s Shelter Home.
Speaking on the occasion, Capital city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said that the decision was taken to provide proper security to helpless women in the city. “We will also recruit security personnel at the shelter homes for the safety and security of women.”
“The shelter home has space for more than 50 women inmates and in the coming days we will try to make space to accommodate more women,” he added.
Abharano Chaudhary, secretary of the Odisha Patita Udhar Samiti, who is looking after the shelter homes in the city, said, “Our main focus will be on bringing more and more helpless women to this SUH.”
