Bhubaneswar: Odisha grapplers secured 11 medals including five gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the recently-concluded XIth Senior National Grappling Championships at Rohtak, Haryana, Wednesday.
In the women’s category, Mamata Sahoo won a gold and a silver in the 42kg gi and no-gi events respectively. Sonam Sahoo clinched two gold medals in the 57kg gi and no-gi events.
In the men’s category, Srikant Sekhar bagged a yellow metal in the 77kg no-gi event while Uma Maheswar Reddy won a gold in the 77kg gi event. In the 82kg gi event Walter Dany secured a silver and in the 80kg no-gi event Abhisek Mitra grabbed a bronze. Anshuman Sethy won a silver in the 79kg gi event and clinched a bronze in the no-gi event.
Eves trounce AP
Soni Behera (19th, 50th minutes), Deepa Nayak (29th, 90+3) and Jasoda Munda (42nd, 45th) scored a brace each as Odisha trounced Andhra Pradesh 8-2 in a match of Junior Girl’s National Football Championships at Goa, Tuesday.
B Anitha gave Andhra the lead in the 12th minute before Odisha restored parity through Soni seven minutes later. However, it was no looking back for the state eves as they dominated the match scoring goals at ease. Such was their dominance that Odisha were up 4-1 by half time.
Banya Kabiraj (61st) and Munica Minz (83rd) were the other goal scorers for Odisha while Y Anitha pulled one back for Andhra in the added-on time.
Three from Odisha
Samir Kerketa, Beekey Oram and Tankadhar Bagh of Odisha have been selected in the India U-16 boy’s football team, Football Association of Odisha (FAO) announced in a press release, Tuesday.
Beekay and Samir have been in Indian fold before but it was first for Tankadhar who has been selected from the AIFF’s scouting program, conducted at Cuttack June 8-9.
