State nurses want ban on upcoming TV serial

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Nursing Employees Association (ONEA) Friday raised its voice against allegedly showing nurses in a very poor light in an upcoming soap opera on a prominent regional entertainment TV channel. The association has lodged a written complaint in this regard with the Capital Police station.

The nurses have also presented their grievances before the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of I&PR, Tourism and Culture and several other departments.

They have alleged that the promos shown on the popular Web channel Youtube are “maligning the prestige of the nursing community”. The nursing employees severely objected to a dialogue being said by the protagonist of the TV soap wherein she mentions that no one would have believed that a Matric fail girl have become a nurse.

In the complaint lodged with the Capital Police station, the association has said that nursing profession has always been a noble profession. No one can question the integrity and attitude of the nurses towards their profession.

The complaint mentioned that they work with honesty and dedication to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of patients and also their family members.

“The portrayal of the protagonist in the serial is also derogatory and wrong. It has compromised the dignity of the nursing community,” the complaint stated.

The association has demanded the removal of the promo trailer from the Youtube channel of the entertainment TV channel. It also demanded that the airing of the serial, which is scheduled to be telecast from October 1, be stopped.
