Cuttack: Shopaholics here’s something for you. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has come up with an idea for a state-of-the-art market complex in Ranihat area here.
Proposed on a 26,760-square feet piece of land along the road connecting College Square and Ranihat, the seven-storey mega structure would house around 200 shops, ultra-modern multiplex besides featuring a spacious parking lot equipped to accommodate hundreds of vehicles. The big ticket project would be executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, CMC sources said.
The decision with regard to the mega project was taken at a council meeting of the CMC a few days back. “Accordingly, a communiqué in this regard has been sent for consideration of the Housing and Urban Development department,” CMC commissioner Sarat Chandra Nayak told the media.
The land upon which the mega project is proposed has so far been used for hosting fairs in the festive seasons.
“The civic body was making a handsome income by renting it out. The posh location of the site and its proximity to various civic utilities will definitely help attract more people to the market complex,” Ward-31 corporator Bijay Kumar Sahoo said, adding that it would help generate more revenue for the state as well.
Sources said the civic body has been mulling for the mega project for a long time. However, it could not take off as the piece of land was caught in a legal wrangle. “However, we got the court’s go-ahead a few days ago, making the way for the project,” Sahoo added.
