State okays 12,865 houses under UHM

Bhubaneswar: The state government Wednesday approved 12,865 new dwelling units for construction under the Odisha Urban Housing Mission (OUHM) in different urban local bodies (ULBs).

and Rs 8,000 for construction of a toilet

 

The State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee of OUHM approved the projects during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi. The panel has approved 47 new detailed project reports (DPRs) worth Rs 383.29 crore regarding this.

Padhi directed the OUHM to prepare an action plan for providing housing to urban poor in all the 114 ULBs by October-end.

The committee also approved constitution of a state level technical cell to provide technical assistance to prepare the action plan, and for coordination and timely execution of the DPRs. Similarly, the proposal for utilising the services of 119 professionals in city level technical cells was also approved.

Padhi directed officials to regularly monitor quality through a third party professional body.

Official sources said earlier 204 DPRs were approved for 111 ULBs. The aim was to construct 59,121 dwelling units. For this, 42,000 work orders were issued to beneficiaries and 10,000 houses have been completed. The remaining 23,332 houses are in different stages of completion.

Under the Mission, a beneficiary gets an assistance of Rs 2 lakh (Rs 1.5 lakh from Centre and Rs 50,000 from state) for construction of a house. Along with this, the government is providing Rs 8,000 for construction of toilets.

The state is also providing incentives of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 to beneficiaries for completing construction within four and six months respectively.
