State prepares to celebrate Ravana Podi in twin cities

Bhubaneswar:  As India celebrates the Dussehra Tuesday, the state has geared up for the ‘Ravana Podi’ utsav, which also symbolises the victory of good over evil.

In the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, preparations are in full swing to observe the utsav in which large effigies of demon king Ravana are burnt. With the burning of the effigies, varieties of fire crackers — both illuminating and sound producing — are the major attractions of this celebration, producing a visual treat.

In the capital city, the Ravan Podi utsav will be held in Nayapalli, Baramunda, Jharpada, Naharkanta, Chandaka and Jatni. Similarly, at Baliyatra ground in Cuttack, preparations are in the final stages.

On this occasion, the Twin City Commissionerate Police has issued an advisory asking the committees to make sure people should stay at a minimum distance of 100 metres from the effigies during firework display. The committees have also been asked to keep fire safety measures and first aid boxes handy.
