State to identify orphan, single-parent children

Bhubaneswar: The state government is going to conduct a survey of orphan children and children of single parents living in the state to bring them under the protective network of the society through government intervention.

Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti (W&CD and MS) department will conduct the mapping of orphan children throughout the state.

The W&CD department is implementing various child development programmes like Biju Sishu Surkhya Yojana, running of childcare institutions in districts, creating awareness against child marriage and encouraging couples for adoption of children.

“However, without proper identification children are not getting benefits from these programmes. So, it has become imperative to identify these targeted children and update their status. As the Chief Minister has already approved the same under implementation of 5Ts for our department, the survey has to be completed in a time bound manner said,” W&CD secretary Anu Garg.

The survey has to be made district-wise across the state by the anganwadi workers engaged in all Anganwadi centres. The district functionaries like District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) will supervise the survey, said an official.

Utmost priority should be given to accurate collection of data in the prescribed format to avoid any complain and allegation, she said.

The W&CD department has issued necessary request letter to all district Collectors in this regard. The consolidated data will be sent to the department by October 5 after the approval of the district Collectors. Necessary honorarium for the Anganwadi workers will be paid, she added.
