STF arrests notorious brown sugar trafficker

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) unit of Odisha Police arrested a notorious drug peddler from Mayurbhanj district Thursday. The accused has been identified as SK Mohatab Alli alias Kati, 39, a resident of Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district. STF sources said that based on intelligence input, a raid was conducted by STF sleuths at Baripada with the help of Mayurbhanj district police May 29 and Alli was apprehended. STF said February 21 last year, 302 grams of brown sugar and other incriminating materials were seized from the possession of one accused, Khirasindhu Samal.

However, Alli, the main supplier of brown sugar to Samal, managed to give police a slip. In addition, the STF stated that 3.25 kg of brown sugar was seized from Alli’s possession in 2020, eventually leading to his arrest. However, he managed to secure a bail within two years of jail. Prior to this, he had been booked thrice by the cops in 2008 and 2015 in connection with several cases. The STF has booked Alli under Section 21 (C) of IPC and 29 of the NDPS Act. He was produced before the district court in Mayurbhanj for extra remand.
