STF seizes more than 1kg brown sugar at Tangi, interstate drug peddler arrested

Tangi: In a major crackdown, a team of special task force (STF) from Odisha Crime Branch seized brown sugar weighing 1.043 kilogram following a raid conducted in Tangi area Wednesday afternoon.

The STF officials have arrested a drug peddler in this connection.

According to a source, the STF team got information from a reliable source that the arrested man had been negotiating with parties to sell the seized contraband item. Swinging into action, the team raided a place on NH-16 near Tangi in Cuttack leading to huge seizure.

The arrested peddler was identified as Safikul Sheikh alias Khokan, son of Late Golam Sheikh of Mirzapur, Poliapara (Paschimpara) under Beldanga police limits in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

Following through search, the STF personnel recovered several other incriminating instruments from possession of the drug peddler. The arrested Safikul was produced before a local court Thursday.

Safikul could not produce any valid document in support of possessing the seized contraband. For which, he was arrested and forwarded to the court of District and Sessions Judge-Cuttack, an official said.

STF PS Case (No-35, dated 20.10.2021 U/s 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered in this connection. Steps are being taken to nab few more interstate drug peddlers who are involved in the case.

Detailed probe is underway, the senior STF official informed.
