Stir for medical college in Bhadrak to be intensified

Bhadrak: Several weeks after rallies and campaigns, the Bhadrak medical college issue has come into focus again. Several outfits, political leaders, social activists, lawyers and intellectuals were geared up to carry forward their agitation for the medical college in the district.

At a meeting held at Nuabazaar Kalyan Mandap two days ago, proponents of the medical college had decided to launch a sit-in protest in front of the Collectorate December 20 and hold a ‘Mahasamavesh’ January 18, 2019.

They also took a jibe at the state government. “The government does not evince interest in the issue of the medical college and has neglected the healthcare sector in the district,” they said.

They lamented that posts of doctors and nurses have been lying vacant at the district headquarters hospital.

It was also decided that to build up pressure on the government, they will stage dharnas in front of MLAs’ residences, the Collectorate, Naveen Niwas and the Governor’s House in coming days.

Milita Kriyanusthan Committee, which has long been espousing this cause, has decided to take up the issue strategically.

Among those present at the meeting were former MP Ananta Prasad Sethi, social activist Sudhakar Rout, educationist Shantanu Kumar Rout, Pandit Sangram Acharya, former principal of Bhadrak Autonomous College Ramachandra Panda, BJP district unit president Badrinarayan Dhal, Congress workers, social activists, members of several youth organisations and lawyers.
