Apart from festivals, there are many traditions and rituals that add up to the celebrations of life. For instance, people celebrate birthdays, love days, school gatherings etc.
But, what If I tell you that there is a tribe that doesn’t celebrate. Instead, the tribals here mourn the birth of children. Shockingly, they celebrate the death of persons.
Yes! What you heard is right. This bizaree ritual has been reported from a tribal group in Rajasthan. The Satiaa tribe of Banjaras in Rajasthan mourns birth of a child and celebrates when someone dies in the family.
These tribes are mostly illiterate, notorious and liquor addicted. They have deep brown complexion and athletic physique and depend on forest produce for living. Women of the tribe have been known to indulge in prostitution.
The most unique of this tribe is that they celebrate when someone dies in the tribe. They reportedly wear new clothes, buy sweets and alcohol. They believe that when someone dies the soul gets released from the body which is a great moment.
The tribe also believes that life after birth is God’s curse and a death is celebrated as the person is free of the curse after his/her death. This is the reason that they mourn birth of a child.
