Bhubaneswar, Dec 8: An art exhibition was inaugurated on the premises of Orissa Modern Art Gallery on the occasion of the Fifth Shilpi Diwas Monday.
The gallery celebrates Shilpi Diwas every year by organising such events in order to encourage budding artists.
The themes ranged from slices of socio-contemporary life to abstract art.
The exhibition will continue till December 15, organizers informed. Founder of the gallery Tarakant Parida, after inaugurating the exhibition, said, “Around 40 paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints will be put up for display at the exhibition. About 30 artists from across the state and Oriya artists staying outside the state elsewhere in the country are also participating in the event.”
“There is no specific day for artists, so OMAG initiated Shilpi Diwas which is dedicated to artists. Our aim is to provide a platform to both striving as well as eminent artists of the state to showcase their art. This will hopefully contribute to building a strong art base in the state,” Parida said, elaborating on the idea behind organising the event.
Pritam Priyalochan, Prabir Dalai, Trinath Mohanty, Nityananda Ojha, and Sushmita Mohanty to name a few are the artists whose work will be showcased in the art exhibition.
A freelance artist based in Delhi, Pritam Priyalochan said, “My portraits have been showcased in the exhibition. This is an abstract way of bringing my works to the fore. Such exhibitions serve as a great platform for upcoming artists as they can also interact with established senior artists.”
