Bhubaneswar, May 22: The state government Friday announced a hike in pre-matriculation scholarships for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) students.
The decision was taken by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who has issued a directive to the department concerned stating that the hike will be applicable to both hostel boarders and day scholars.
The monthly scholarship for boy hostel boarders studying in classes I to X has been increased to `750, while that for girls has been increased
to `800.
The scholarship for boy day scholars of classes from VI to VII has been increased to `180 a month while that for girls has been increased to `240.
The state government has also enhanced scholarship to `240 a month for boy day scholars studying in class VIII and to `300 for girls.
The state government had April 29 also announced an increase in the reservation of seats for ST/SC students in government institutes of higher education to 38.75 per cent against the existing 20 per cent. However, the government had to face protests from various sections of student communities at some colleges.
