Student killed as water tank collapses in Balasore school

Balasore: In a tragic incident, a student of a private English medium school died Friday after a water tank on the school premises collapsed on him at Padmapur village under Chandipur police limits in this district. The deceased has been identified as Narayan Tudu, 10, son of Bagarai Tudu who is a native of Barang area in Khurda district. Narayan was studying in Class IV at Banchhanidhi English Medium School in this district.

According to sources, Narayan used to reside in the school hostel. He had gone near the water tank to wash his hands after having breakfast when the wall of the water tank caved in on him. The boy was trapped under the debris of the concrete wall. The school authorities immediately rescued him and rushed him to District Headquarters Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Upon being informed, Chandipur police rushed to the accident site and launched a probe into the matter. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke to the Balasore District Collector and sought an investigation report after the news spread. State School and Mass Education department has launched a probe into the incident.
