Student unrest in Khallikote College over exam results

Berhampur: Even though the date of students’ union elections has not been announced in Khallikote (Autonomous) College, politics over publication of examination results has been plaguing the campus.

Students closed the college’s main gate and staged a demonstration over alleged errors in the results of the semester examinations Thursday.

The students led by their leaders K. Sai Kumar, Arakhita Behera and Rajendra Badatya closed the college gate at 11 am and staged a demonstration outside.

The strike disrupted the third and fifth semester examinations scheduled Thursday. The students appearing for the examination had to return. The college authorities cancelled the examination until further orders.

Town police personnel and Principal Prasant Kumar Satpathy rushed to the spot and held talks with the students.

The Principal said the students can lodge complaints within a week of the publication of results, and if there are mistakes they could be corrected. Later, they can apply for revaluation within the next 10 days, and assured that the notice for revaluation will be published Saturday. The students later withdrew their strike.

The students alleged that many of them have back papers in honours subjects after results of the first and third year semester examination were published September 15. They alleged errors in valuation of answer sheets which have been done deliberately to prevent students from contesting the election.

They also expressed doubts over the timing of the publication of results which is mostly published after elections.

All the 276 students in the Science stream have passed the examinations while 348 out of 463 in the Arts stream and 330 out of 398 appearing in Commerce stream have passed.
