Students on indefinite fast seeking Principal’s transfer

Kendrapara: Protesting against the Principal’s order to wear a waistcoat and tie as part of their uniforms, students including girls of Sailendra Narayan College of Rajkanika, staged fast unto death in front of their college demanding the Principal’s transfer.

The students alleged the Principal had changed the dress code thrice and now he was forcing students to wear a waistcoat and tie along with uniforms and had insisted that it should be bought from the college. The Principal drove out girls from classrooms and misbehaved with students.

As most of the students belonged to poor families, they protested against the Principal’s order which meant   additional burden for the poor parents. The Principal had ordered sine die illegally, they alleged.

Although the students took up the matter with the Tehsildar and the ADM August 10 and demanded the Principal’s transfer, all went in vain.

The college authorities have been threatening students over phone about consequences. A lecturer threatened the students that he would reduce marks of practical exams if the students did not obey the Principal.

The students have urged the Chief Minister to transfer the Principal from the college and to remove hooliganism on the campus.
