Students protest low marks

Nayagarh: Unhappy with the marks, students of Nayagarh autonomous college staged protests and locked the main gate Monday afternoon.

Out of 180, 127 students were awarded low marks in their first semester examination, declared March especially in Economics subject.

The protesters complained that despite performing exceedingly well in the examinations, they were awarded low scores.

Many other students secured less than 30 out of 80 in Economics though they said they fared well in the examination. Students got 40 marks when they were expecting 70.

After the results were published, many a time students tried to draw the attention of the authorities but it fell on deaf ears, protesters alleged.

Left with no option, students Monday locked the main gate of the college and demanded re-evaluation.

Later, Principal Bijay Laxmi Parida assured them that a team would be formed to probe the case. Later, the stir was withdrawn.
