Khurda: College goers will now help regulate traffic, especially at 10 strategic traffic posts, here under the Student Traffic Volunteer Scholarship Scheme (STVSS), IGP (Central Range) Soumendra Priyadarshi said Friday.

Launching the scheme here, Priyadarshi said 60 students from Prananath College have been roped in for the scheme. Two STVs will assist a home guard/traffic constable at each traffic post in manning the commuters. Apart from regulating the traffic, they will also sensitise the road users about systematic vehicle parking as well as other rules for road safety. The STVs have undergone a training session for the purpose.

“Each volunteer will get Rs 100 for a three-hour duty. And will be allowed to do a maximum of 16-day duty with each day being three-hour,” the police official said, adding that the STVs are also provided with an insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh.
