Students served mid-day meals with salt, curry supplied late

Sajanagad: Amid alleged mess in noon meal in Nilagiri area of Balasore district, students of Kahalia Bansidhar Nodal School Friday were served y rice with salt. By the rime curry was brought from Shergad central kitchen, students had eaten their meals, a report said.

Reports said, noon meals are prepared at Shergad central kitchen and supplied to 18 schools under Nilagiri NAC for the last one month amid allegations that standard of the food was poor.

As the staff brought meals in a vehicle from the kitchen at 1.10 pm, there was only rice for the students. When villagers objected to it, they explained that after delivering meals to other schools, they ran out of curry.

The school staff had to serve rice and salt to hungry students. The staff rushed back on a bike to the kitchen and brought soya bean curry. By then, students had finished their meals.

Villagers alleged that noon meals served from the kitchen were poor while eggs are not served to students sometimes.

Kitchen staff alleged that the headmaster of the school should have informed them about the number of students in the school after prayer class. But the HM had delayed in intimating about the students’ strength to the supply agency.

CRCC Ranjit Rout rushed to the spot and admitted that there was a delay in serving the meals. Nilagiri BEO Bahirathi Giri said the matter will be looked into and the delivering system will be streamlined.
