Students tense as block grant teachers continue strike

Jajpur: With thousands of block grant teachers staging dharna at lower PMG in Bhubaneswar since August 16, education has taken a back seat at almost all districts.

While the students will appear in pre-test examination next month, the ongoing strike could be detrimental to them.

Jajpur district alone has at least 270 block grant schools. Out of these educational institutions, 144 are high schools, 88 higher primary schools, 20 Madrasas and 18 Sanskrit schools.

These schools have more than 2,000 teachers and at least 30,000 students.

Parents said the strike could harm the prospects of students, particularly those in Class X.

“We don’t have an idea when would this strike be over,” said block grant teachers Abhimanyu Nayak and Sangeeta Senapati.
