Bhubaneswar: Emerging Oriya batsman Subhransu Senapati in the men’s segment and Kadambini Mahakud in the women’s category have been chosen as the best cricketers for the 25th Saheed Sporting 2016-17 awards.
Subhransu has been chosen on the basis of his good performances in the last Ranji Trophy season. The batsman scored 497 runs in nine matches including a century and three half centuries at an average of 43.61 with 137 being his best score. He will be presented with a cash award of Rs 31,000 along with a trophy. On the other hand Kadambini will get Rs 21,000 along with a trophy.
“The awards will be presented in a special function, the date of which will be announced very soon,” informed club secretary Pankaj Patnaik.
Easy triumphs
Mizoram, West Bengal and Bihar registered convincing victories in their matches of the ongoing Junior Girls’ National Football Championships at Cuttack.
Mizoram thumped Chhattisgarh 4-2 at Barabati Stadium in the only game played there Friday. In other matches played on the day, West Bengal trounced Goa 3-1 while Bihar got past Tripura by an identical margin. Both matches were played at the Police ground.
In the Mizoram-Chhattisgarh match, Vanlalhriattri Bauwitlung (37th, 41st and 89th minutes) registered a hat-trick and scripted victory for her side. The other goal for Mizoram was scored by Lal Rinzuali (65th). Nilam Futans (40th) and Kritika Poyem (83rd) got the goals for Chhattisgarh.
Title for BJEM
BJEM School emerged champions in the Sahodaya Inter-School football tournament beating Vikash Residential School 2-0 in the final at the Sainik School ground here, Friday. En route to their title triumph, BJEM defeated Times Gurukul, DAV Garage Chhak, DAV, Chandrasekharpur and Sainik School teams.
