Subrat Das beats protégé Soubhagya Behera to win Jharkhand snooker meet

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s top cueist Subrat Das emerged champion in the 3rd Invitational Jharkhand Invitational Open 6Reds snooker tournament which concluded Sunday in Ranchi. In the final, played at the Ranchi Club, Subrat Das beat his own protégé Soubhagya Behera 6-3.

It was a close contest with frames being won by both the players on a see-saw basis. Soubhagya Behera gave a good fight to Subrat Das and at one stage led by two frames to one. However, the experience of Subrat prevailed and he made crucial pots to win the title.

Earlier in the semifinals, Soubhagya produced some brilliant snooker to beat Anish Parikh of Jharkhand. In the nine frames match, Soubhagya at one stage was down 0-4. But he reeled off five frames in a row to book berth in the summit clash round. Subrat however, had an easy semifinal outing as he thrashed Adarsh Verma of Jharkhand 5-1.

Along with the winner’s trophy, Subrat also got a cash prize of Rs 20,000 while Soubhagya went home richer by Rs 10,000. He also was presented with the runner-up trophy.
