Sujata missing, plot thickens

Bhubaneswar, June 25: Sujata Pradhan a member of the Orissa’s rugby squad, which won gold in the 35th National Games in January-February at Kerala, has not reported to the training camp at the Kalinga Stadium here since the last three months, Orissa’s head coach Dhiren Kumar Rout stated Thursday.
Meanwhile her family members have filed a complaint June 22 at the Nandankan PS stating that the player has gone missing for a month and that she never returned home after turning up for training May 18 at the Kalinga Stadium. This ambiguity in information is causing problems to the police.
“Sujata was selected from a trial camp last year. She had trained here for 7-8 months and participated in the National Games. But since the last three months she hasn’t reported for any of the trials,” said Dhiren.
Based on the complaint lodged by Sujata’s parents, police have already started their investigation. They have interrogated a few friends of Sujata and some rugby players. According to initial investigations, police are suspecting a mason named Pravat Pradhan behind the ‘kidnapping’ of Sujata, as he has also gone missing May 18.
“We have lodged a kidnapping case on the basis of the complaint filed by Sujata’s father. Search is on to find her and we are hopeful of tracking her down soon,” stated police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma here Sunday.
But then there is another side to the story. According to a few sources at the Kalinga Stadium, there is every possibility of Sujata eloping as she was having an affair with a boy in Pada Sahi village where she resides. However, her parents had raised objections to the ‘affair’ which prompted Sujata to flee from home with her ‘lover’.
