Sultry condition leaves 231 students ill

Bhadrak/Bahanaga, July 14: In separate incidents 231 students fell sick due to sultry weather condition in Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts Tuesday.
Two hundred students of two private schools under Bhadrak civic body limits were admitted to the district headquarters hospital after they fainted due to the sultry weather condition.
Of them, 150 students belong to Saraswati Sishu Mandir and 50 are from
Happy Home School.

Initially, some students fell unconscious on the school premises, followed by one after another. The school authorities brought the students to the hospital in a private vehicle. The hospital authorities found it difficult to treat so many students at a time as electricity was disrupted. Later, the students were provided saline drips. Two students recovered and were sent home, said additional district medical officer Gitanjali Patnaik.
Another report from Bahanaga of Balasore stated that 12 students of Asimila UPME School fainted during their prayer session due to the sultry condition. The condition of one of them, Tapan Mallick (Class VII) is stated to be critical. They were admitted to Soro hospital. Students said they first felt dizziness and subsequently fainted.
Similarly, a report from Betanati in Mayurbhanj district said 19 students of Sankara nodal school fell ill due to excess humidity. They were admitted to the
local hospital.
