New Delhi: Sumit Antil clinched India’s second gold medal Monday in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics. He won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F64 event with world record effort. He threw the spear to a distance of 68.55 metres creating a new world record in the process. Teammate Sandeep Chaudhary finished fourth with a best throw of 62.20m.
Earlier in the day Avani Lekhara clinched gold and equalled the world record in the Women’s R2 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. In the process, she became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the Paralympics.
In a way, Antil followed in the footsteps of Neeraj Chopra who had won the javelin in the Tokyo Olympics earlier this month. The spear is turning out to be a good event for Indians.
