Fashion designers view summer as an opportunity to incorporate different colours, styles and fabrics into your wardrobe. It’s a season for pastel shades and light cotton fabrics. No matter how sweltering the day, you can look trendy and confident in the right apparel. And staying in style can always give you positive returns. Sunday POST talked to a few experts to find out more about fashion for different occasions this summer.
Travel
Fashion designer and owner of Dolliz Kasba, Dolly Parekh, says, “For travelling, you need comfy clothing. Cargo pants and stretch pants in comfortable fits and in a variety of fabrics are trending now. Capri is equally in and gives the much-needed comfort and flexibility. These paired with a light-coloured floral print or striped top or a cotton kurta will provide you maximum comfort when you are travelling whether by plane, train or bus. A trendy rucksack can add to your overall look and keep your all belongings in one place.”
Wedding
When it comes to attending a wedding in summer, many prefer to stay away from elaborate partywear with heavy work. Bhubaneswar-based fashion designer Reemly Mohanty offers a few tips for those looking for appropriate summer wedding wear. She says, “You must have a comfortable yet vibrant outfit when you are going to attend a wedding. A white and gold combination can strike the right balance between austere and ornate. This is perfect whether for a destination wedding or a festive brunch. Invest in a strapless blouse or get yourself a peasant top to get into a sultry summer mode and go for a bronzed look in make-up.”
She further adds: “Men should stick to earthy hues in tactile fabrics and monotone looks as summer requires a sober palette. Roomy trousers, layering and a mix-and-match of different shades of neutrals lend a sophisticated look. Light trenches and jackets too help in adding to the trendy look.”
Going out for fun
Pooja Motwani, New-Delhi based fashion and jewellery designer, says, “Summer’s colour palette includes pastels and, as always, white. There’s also a virtual rainbow of colours – beautiful shades of turquoise, emerald, lavender and fuchsia. Look for polka dots, stripes and florals. Pink is a preferred colour but by far the most versatile colour is white as it goes with neutral as well as bright and pastel shades. Skirts are ideal for this season and are available in various styles, prints and fabrics. Those who are slim can go for miniskirts and wraparound skirts while others can opt for long flowing skirts with floral prints. Pair these skirts with body-hugging cotton tops if you have a perfect figure or choose floral and pastel coloured kurtas to hide any tummy bulge.”
She adds: “Besides, never forget that accessories can add to your look. So, you may choose colourful handbags, strappy sandals, light jewellery and sunglasses to make a style statement this season.”
