Sundargarh, Nayagarh emerge champs

Bamra, August 10: Sundargarh and Nayagarh emerged champions in the U-17 and U-14 categories respectively in the 56th State Level Subroto Cup football tournament here Monday.
In the U-17 category, Sundargarh edged out Sambalpur 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the nail-biting final to clinch the title. The match ended goalless in regulation time. In the U-14 category, Nayagarh blanked Bhubaneswar 2-0 to take the top honours.
Hosts in semis
Angul Home Guard entered the semifinals of the Angul Cup football tournament beating Maa Mangala Club, Cuttack 5-4 via the tie-breaker in a quarterfinal match at Angul, Monday. The match ended goalless in the regulation time with both sides missing easy opportunities.
In a new role
Former Orissa skipper Rashmi Ranjan Parida has been appointed by the OCA as the batting coach of Orissa Ranji and U-23 teams for the 2015-16 season.
“Rashmi was a reputed batsman during his time. It will be helpful for the association to develop the batting department of the team with his help,” OCA stated through a press release Monday in Cuttack.
Pankaj appointed
The BCCI has appointed Pankaj Pattnaik as a member of the ‘Ground and Pitches Committee’ to assist the panel in the work of inspection of pitches and outfield of venues staging domestic matches. The duration of his assignment will be from August 2015 to September 2016. Presently he is working as the chief curator of the Orissa Cricket Association (OCA).
Barabati Bulls triumph
Barabati Bulls scraped past Block Master Kings 15-13 in the final to emerge champions of the Ist Ball Badminton Premier League at the Bhakta Madhu Vidyapitha Ground in Cuttack, Monday. Kuldeep of the winning team, was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
