Chennai, August 1: Thousands of fans of suspended IPL team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) gathered outside the MA Chidambaram stadium here Saturday and launched a campaign by signing a petition to revoke the team’s suspension. The petition was addressed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Supreme Court.
Attired in CSK’s trademark yellow jerseys and carrying banners, the fans sought to get the suspension of the team revoked. It was evident that Chennaiyans wanted back their home franchise in IPL-IX next year.
Saravanan, a huge fan of CSK and their captain MS Dhoni, who had mooted the idea of this signature campaign, said: “The love for the team is clearly visible as already thousands have assembled at the venue today (Saturday). Just a message was given through social media and the turnout is there for everyone to see.”
TR Krishnan, an ardent fan of the South Indian team said the BCCI and Supreme Court have done sheer injustice by suspending CSK for the guilt of a single person. “For an individual’s mistake, so many fans should not be punished. We are the most successful team of IPL. The authorities should think about the verdict once again.”
However, the India A match, which was scheduled at the same venue, was not affected as the game was already over by then.
