Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials Wednesday unearthed disproportionate assets worth crores of rupees from the possession of a Superintending Engineer in the Public Health Department in Bhubaneswar.

Simultaneous searches were conducted in properties linked to Biswabandhu Panigrahi — who works as a Superintending Engineer, PH, O/o EIC, PH Division in Bhubaneswar — on the allegation of possessing assets disproportionate to his known source of income, a Vigilance source said.

The raid was conducted by seven DSPs, five inspectors, eight ASIs and other staff at as many as six places in Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak, the source added.

During searches, so far, a double-storied building at Bhubaneswar, advance money Rs. 39 Lakh paid by Panigrahi to a real estate company to purchase a three BHK Flat in name of his spouse in Rudrapur, Bhubaneswar, one single-storied building in Bhadrak, four plots in prime area of Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak were detected, the source informed.

The measurement and valuation of the moveable and immovable objects is underway by Vigilance Technical Wing. In addition to it, Rs 2 lakh in cash, around 250 grams of gold insurance deposits worth over Rs 51 lakh, bank, postal and other deposits are under verification, said the source.

One four-wheeler and four two-wheelers were also unearthed during search by the Vigilance officials so far, the source added.

Searches are underway.
