Kendrapara, Nov 30: A 56-year-old man supervising work for construction of overhead water tanks at a site of RWSS department   in Hatia village under Marshaghai police limits, sustained gunshot injuries Sunday after two motorbike-borne miscreants fired at him at the site, Satish Kumar Gajavhiye, the SP of Kendrapara, said.

The injured supervisor has been identified as Bharat Chandra Ojha, 56, of Garapur village. Police sources said that Ojha was engaged to supervise the work by Pranab Kumar Mohapatra, a contractor, who had taken the tender work at Hatia village at an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakh.

Though the miscreants fired six rounds at Ojha, two rounds pierced his right leg. Ojha was rushed to the district headquarters hospital, but was later shifted to the SCB medical college and hospital, Gajavhiye said.

Marshaghai police suspect it might be the handiwork of members of a gang. The miscreants may have earlier demanded extortion money either from the contractor or the injured supervisor. When they couldn’t fulfil their demands, the miscreants might have fired at Ojha.

Police have registered a case and hunt is on to nab the miscreants involved in the firing incident. No arrests have been made so far, Sukant Kumar Patra, the IIC of Marshaghai police station, said. Criminal activities have been on the rise in the Marshaghai area and several shooting incidents have been reported under the police station.
